Tobaya Ryokan is a classic Japanese ryokan first opened for guests in 1880 and running now for 140 years. Based in the neighborhood of Hikone Castle, it faces Hanashoubu Street, which has been selected as a Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. The various interior and furnishings reflect Tobaya Ryokan’s deep history, including an incense-scented entrance with old noren (curtain), lanterns, woodblock prints, and Ii Naosuke's writings.

The 12 guestrooms remain in the classic style from Edo period, making for a comfortable and peaceful stay. The inner garden next to the alley on the ground floor is gently lit up at night, creating a beautiful garden view. Experience a historical ryokan at Tobaya.

For dinner, the restaurant offers a variety of exquisite dishes matching the seasons, including high-quality Omi beef, sashimi of seasonal fish, grilled fish with salt, vegetable with sesame paste, and simmered dishes, etc. The delicious meals always satisfy guests’appetite and delight their hearts.

Many tourist attractions are in the surrounding area. You can walk to the Yume Kyobashi Castle Road which is filled with the townhouse stores with white walls and black latticework, and the Hikone Castle which features a three-story main castle building, Genkyu-en Daimyo’Garden and many more interesting parts.
