Chuzenji Lake was created 20,000 years ago from the eruption of Mt. Nantaisan. Diameter 25m, and maximum water depth 163m. Various seasonal flora awaits visitors. There is a hiking course around Chuzenji Lake. and visitors can enjoy a leisurely, great view of Mt. Nantaisan. It is chilly even during Summer, and was popular among foreigners as a place to escape the heat. Various villas of foreign nationals were made around here.

One of those villas was the Italian Embassy Villa Memorial Park. It was designed by Antonin Raymond, an architect and diplomat. The walls are adorned with Ichimatsu patterns, and are beautiful with a cedar skin. The villa dissolves into the beautiful sceneries of Chuzenji Lake. From the garden, visitors can view a magnificent landscape of the lake.

Nearby is the United Kingdom Embassy Villa, constructed in 1896. The villa was owned by the UK diplomat Ernest Satow, and was frequented by Isabella Bird. It is now open to the public with an exhibit.
