The Hakusan Shirakawa-go White Road is a driving route that connects Hakusan City in Ishikawa Prefecture with the World Heritage site of Shirakawa-go in Gifu Prefecture. This mountainous scenic road is open for a limited time each year, from mid-June to early November, offering breathtaking natural landscapes along the way. In addition to enjoying the view from your car, there are also spots where you can go walking or trekking.

Recommended spots along the route include Fukube Falls, one of the most famous waterfalls along the route, Hakusan Observatory where you can view Mt. Hakusan, one of Japan's three most famous mountains, and Shirakawago Observatory Deck, which offers panoramic views of the World Heritage site Shirakawago and the surrounding mountains. The driving time varies depending on the spots you stop at, but it generally takes about 1-2 hours.

If you prefer to walk, Jadani Gardens is a natural park with a beech forest, "Ubagataki Waterfall," and "Oyadani no Yu," a natural hot spring. There is also a walking trail called "Jadani Gardens Yuhodo," and near the "Shirakawago Observatory," there is a forest bathing trail called "Buna no Komichi." If you're interested in trekking towards Sanpoiwadake, there are courses that take approximately 3-5 hours, so please check the official website for detailed routes and required time.

Are there brochures and signs in foreign languages available?

Please ask at the counter for a brochure (available in English, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese). Some road signs and explanation boards along the road are in foreign languages, but not all. As of July 2023, we are gradually replacing and enhancing them.

There are toilets at four parking lots within the toll section and two locations in front of each toll booth.

Motorcycles are not allowed to travel on the road due to its structure and for safety reasons.

The counter staff cannot provide service in foreign languages. We use cards with anticipated questions for explanations. We are also preparing to introduce translation devices (by the end of 2023).

Mobile phones are out of service in many sections of the road. Please use the emergency phones installed along the road in case of emergency.
