Yufuin Stained Glass Museum

One of the few museums in Japan dedicated to stained glass, it displays many antique stained-glass works made in Europe from the 1800s onward.

“Neal’s House,” where you can enjoy the charm of stained glass through shimmering lighting, has seven exhibition rooms. Along with works by Émile Gallé, often called a masterpiece of Art Nouveau, you’ll also find stained glass by Ireland’s genius Harry Clarke—every piece is rare and well worth seeing. Beyond the artworks themselves, the interior and exterior crafted by British artisans are refined as well, with a serious commitment to detail—everything from the wallpaper and curtains to the roof tiles and bricks was sourced from the UK.

Another building on the grounds, “St. Robert’s Church,” is known for its intricate construction that highlights the beauty of Hita cedar from Oita. By incorporating stained-glass windows as accents, it creates an atmosphere that feels both solemn and elegant. In addition to stained glass, the cross and chalice are beautifully artistic works by renowned artists—so striking you may find yourself staring.
