Hachinohe City Buried Cultural Properties Center Korekawa Jomon Museum
Experience Jomon-era culture through exhibits and videos.
This facility shares the Jomon culture of the Tohoku region through exhibits of artifacts from the Korekawa Stone Age Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties from the Kazahari 1 Site.
On the 1st floor, in addition to panel displays introducing an overview of the Korekawa Site and the museum, you can also view the storage conditions of excavated items through the observation window into the general storage room. There are plenty of highlights, including the “Beauty of Jomon” gallery featuring Jomon lacquerware and artistic excavated objects, and the “Mysteries of Jomon” gallery where you can learn about excavation findings. The “National Treasure Gallery,” with the National Treasure “Gassho Dogu” from the Kazahari 1 Site on display as a signature exhibit, is a must-see.
In addition to the permanent exhibits, a variety of special and featured exhibitions are held regularly. Through lectures and hands-on workshops, the museum also introduces the Jomon period and archaeological sites from multiple perspectives. On the 2nd floor, you’ll also find an “Immersion Theater,” where video and sound offer a glimpse into the Jomon era.
