Kurume Centennial Park in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is a nature-rich park that opened in 1989 to commemorate the city’s 100th anniversary.

In spring, azaleas bloom in profusion, and the park is wrapped in vivid color. While feeling Kurume’s azalea-growing tradition that has continued since the Edo period, you can admire a variety of colorful flowers.

It’s also popular as a cherry blossom viewing spot, and during sakura season, Approx. 200 cherry trees bloom in full. From late March to early April, it’s lively with people enjoying cherry blossom viewing, offering a distinctly Japanese sense of spring.

Around the park, there are also cultural facilities such as a youth science museum and a bird center, offering opportunities to learn as well. In addition, you can enjoy a picnic on the spacious lawn plaza or work up a sweat playing sports. It’s a spot that offers a variety of fun throughout the day.
