Ohori Park is located in downtown Fukuoka City, only two stations away from Tenjin Station, but is a favorite place for citizens to relax and enjoy the abundant nature centered around a large pond.

The pond, which occupies more than half of the park's total area of 39.8 ha, was used by Nagamasa Kuroda as an outer moat when he built Fukuoka Castle. Four bridges span the "middle islands" scattered in the center of the pond, and visitors can cross the pond by crossing the bridges. The perimeter of the pond is maintained as a 2-km-long circular path, which is popular not only for strolling but also as a running and cycling course.

Boathouse Ohori Park, located in the park, is a complex facility that opened in 2015. In addition to the boathouse, it houses a café, bakery, and French restaurant, where visitors can enjoy gourmet food with a waterside view. The Ohori Terrace, a store and rental space that opened in 2020, is also a hot topic.

Surrounding the park is a Japanese garden created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the park's opening, as well as a Noh theater and the Fukuoka Art Museum, making it a cultural center for Fukuoka City.

Highlights

  • Boat rentals include the standard swan and rowing type boats.
  • The entire east side of "Nakanoshima" is illuminated with LED lights at night.
  • The path around the pond is set up with lanes for strolling, running, and other uses, so please be careful when using the path.
