Known affectionately as “Matsukama” in its hometown of Matsushima, Matsushima Kamaboko Honpo offers a wide lineup of products, including Miyagi’s famous sasa kamaboko and the lightly textured fried tofu kamaboko “Muu.” “Doraboko,” known for its dorayaki-like appearance, is a sweet kamaboko developed to encourage children to eat more fish.
It features lemon-flavored cheese cream sandwiched between batter made with plenty of fish paste and eggs. Its fluffy texture and refined sweetness make it hard to believe it is kamaboko. Add maple syrup or jam, and you can enjoy it like a pancake. High in protein and low in calories, it is also recommended when you are craving something sweet while dieting.
