Located in central Mori Town, Approx. 1 hour by car from downtown Hakodate, this park is loved as a relaxing place for local residents. Approx. 1,000 Yoshino cherry trees were planted to commemorate Emperor Taisho’s enthronement, and the park opened in 1914.

Even today, it is a famous cherry blossom spot with 1,000 trees across 17 varieties, mainly Somei Yoshino, including Mori Town native varieties such as Mori Komachi and Aoba Shidare. Some are original trees from when the park opened that still bloom today and are over 100 years old.

From late April to early May, during cherry blossom season, it becomes the main venue for the “Morimachi Sakura Festival,” held for Approx. two weeks and drawing over 100,000 visitors every year. The park’s special stage hosts live performances such as singing shows, and rows of food stalls add to the lively atmosphere. During the festival period, nighttime illuminations are also held, creating a beautifully magical scene.

Don’t miss the primeval chestnut grove in the park. Approx. 130 trees still remain, including around 50 old trees that are 200 years old, and its rarity has earned it designation as a Natural Monument of Hokkaido.
