Located in Akakura Onsen, known as one of Niigata’s premier hot spring areas, Hotel Taiko is a long-established ryokan known for its historic waters, first opened in 1816, and its spectacular open-air bath overlooking Mt. Myoko. Guests can fully enjoy the beloved waters of Akakura Onsen, cherished by many literary greats, in the scenic open-air bath and large public bath.

The spring water has the rare combination of sulfate and bicarbonate properties, and is well known for beautifying the skin and helping heal wounds. From the inn’s signature scenic open-air bath, you can take in views of Mt. Myoko as it changes with the seasons and enjoy the grandeur of nature while soaking.

Guest rooms range from thoughtfully designed Japanese-Western style rooms to suite rooms over 50 square meters. Many also offer great views, letting you relax while looking out at Mt. Myoko. Dinner mainly features local kaiseki cuisine made with regional mountain and seafood ingredients, and the kettle-cooked Niigata Koshihikari rice is especially popular. The property also has table tennis, a game corner, and a kids’ corner, and in winter, ski and snowboard rental services are available.
