Asamushi Onsen Nanbuya Kaisenkaku

A hot spring inn known for its scenic-view bath overlooking Mutsu Bay.

This hot spring ryokan stands in the center of Asamushi Onsen. It is said that when the hot spring was first discovered by Jikaku Daishi (Ennin) in the Heian period, it was used for steaming hemp, and that the name “Asamushi Onsen” came from that origin.

At Nanbuya Kaisenkaku, the highlight is the scenic-view bath where you can enjoy the waters of Asamushi Onsen. From the indoor bath made with natural Towada stone and hinoki cypress and the open-air bath with a refreshing sea breeze, you can take in sweeping views of the sea and sky. The sunset view is especially recommended, when the sun sinks into Mutsu Bay and the sky turns crimson.

Guest rooms include Japanese-style rooms and Japanese-Western style rooms on the sea side, as well as Western-style rooms on the mountain side. Options also include the “Mutsu Bay Suite,” a Japanese-style room featuring transoms relocated from an old Tsugaru residence and an open-air bath, the “Luxury Twin” with an open-air bath and ocean views, and a barrier-free universal room. Every room offers a soothing space where you can feel close to nature, whether the sea or the mountains.

Inside the property are “Nebuta Dining Ryuo,” where you can enjoy kaiseki cuisine and a local performing arts show from Aomori, and the buffet-style “dining Umitsuji.” Both serve dishes made with seasonal ingredients from Aomori Prefecture and Tsugaru. For breakfast, don’t miss the Japanese-Western buffet with local specialties such as hotate kaiyaki miso and ika menchi.
