Meoto Daikoku Shrine

Tucked away deep within the grounds of Kasuga Taisha and surrounded by quiet trees, this auxiliary shrine stands in peaceful seclusion. It is the only shrine in Japan to enshrine the married deities Okuninushi-no-Mikoto and Suserihime-no-Mikoto side by side, and its origins date back to the Heian period, when their divine spirits were welcomed from Izumo Taisha. For nearly 900 years, it has quietly watched over people's lives while bestowing blessings for marital harmony, matchmaking, and family safety.

Though the shrine building is small, the sunlight filtering through the approach and the gentle atmosphere around it softly ease the hearts of those who visit. It is also the fifteenth and final stamp shrine of the Wakamiya Jūgosha Meguri pilgrimage, and by praying here, the pilgrimage reaches its completion. The grounds also offer charming good-luck items, including matchmaking charms with a wisteria motif and pink heart-shaped ema plaques.
