A signature product from Shoeidoh, a confectionery shop in Ichinoseki City known for its famous sweet “Tamura no Ume,” beloved for more than 100 years. These bite-sized dumplings wrap fragrant black sesame syrup in pleasantly chewy dough, making them a highly popular Iwate souvenir.
The dumplings are made with non-glutinous rice flour blended mainly from rice grown in Tohoku, while the sesame syrup uses carefully selected ingredients such as aromatic black sesame chosen by a specialty shop and soy sauce made by a long-established local producer. The dumplings’ smooth texture and the rich, flowing sesame syrup are exceptional, and the product has even ranked No. 1 in sales and popularity voting at past confectionery expos. Sister products such as “Kurumi Dango,” filled with walnut sauce, and “Zunda Dango,” filled with the Tohoku specialty zunda made from mashed edamame, are also popular.
