Founded as a therapeutic bath lodging in the Taisho era (1912–1926), this long-established hot spring inn is known for using free-flowing hot spring water from its own source in all of its bathing facilities, letting guests enjoy exceptionally fresh “raw” spring water. The open-air bath “Ruri no Yu” is especially memorable, with water that mysteriously shifts from lapis blue to milky white depending on the season and time of day. In addition, the inn offers a variety of bathing facilities, including a cypress open-air bath, a private open-air bath available to the first eight groups, a large public bath, and a footbath.

A wide range of guest rooms is available, including rooms with open-air baths and raised seating areas. Guest rooms with open-air baths include Mino ware baths in the Japanese-Western style rooms and cypress baths in the Japanese-style rooms, so guests can enjoy free-flowing hot spring water from the source anytime during their stay. The inn is also close to the gondola station at Hikage Slope, making it a convenient base for winter sports.

Dinner is served as a kaiseki-style meal highlighting the flavors of the season, and dishes featuring plenty of locally gathered mountain vegetables are especially popular. Optional add-ons include stone-grilled Shinshu Premium beef and horse sashimi. Breakfast is a Japanese set meal made with gentle ingredients and mild seasoning.
