Shorenji Lake
A waterside paradise where the four seasons are reflected. Relax and unwind amid scenery painted by water and flowers.
An artificial lake created with the completion of Shorenji Dam, which stands 82 meters high and 275 meters long. In every direction, the lake is surrounded by deep mountains, and beautiful seasonal scenery, cherry blossoms, fresh greenery, and autumn leaves are reflected on the water’s surface.
The surrounding area is also well maintained, with parks and viewing areas along the lakeshore. Many visitors come to enjoy outdoor activities such as birdwatching, fishing, cycling, and kayaking, attracting tourists not only from the local area but also from outside the prefecture.
Nearby are famous spots such as Kaochidani Valley, known for its exposed rock walls that look as if they were split with an ax, and Akame 48 Waterfalls, where multiple falls cascade through the valley. Also open nearby is the tourist farm Shorenji Lake Tourist Village, where you can enjoy strawberry picking in winter and spring, and grape picking in summer and fall.
Pair your lakeside stroll with a stop at a cafe overlooking the lake and fully enjoy a relaxing waterside retreat.
