Lake Towada Winter Story
A magical winter festival that brings the frozen landscapes of Lake Towada to life, stirring the heart with unforgettable sights.
Lake Towada Winter Story is a seasonal winter event at Lake Towada that began in 1999. Set in a venue blanketed in ice and snow, it offers a wide range of winter-only attractions that both adults and children can enjoy.
One of the highlights is the winter fireworks, launched into the crystal-clear night sky of midwinter. Set to music, the display creates an immersive, otherworldly atmosphere. Message fireworks are also available (for a fee), allowing participants to send heartfelt wishes to someone special through a personalized firework display. The venue also features a snow park with a giant snow slide and banana boat rides, offering plenty of opportunities for active winter fun. On weekends, the Winter Border Festival showcases powerful performances inspired by festivals from northern Tohoku, along with shows by local groups.
Food is another major draw. Visitors can enjoy local dishes made with regional ingredients and traditional home-style cuisine at Yukiakari Yokocho, or warm up at the Kamakura Bar, where local sake and cocktails are served inside snow huts-an experience unique to snowy regions.
