A streetcar system affectionately known as “Tosaden,” running through Kōchi Prefecture. Since opening in 1904, it has operated three lines-the Ino Line, Gomen Line, and Sanbashi Line-forming one of Japan’s largest streetcar networks, with a total length of about 25.3 km and 76 stops.

All lines connect at Harimayabashi, allowing seamless through service from the city center to suburban areas. While serving as an essential mode of daily transportation for local residents, it is also popular with visitors as a sightseeing route that offers a glimpse into Kōchi’s streetscapes and local culture.

One of Tosaden traffic’s unique attractions is its collection of historic streetcars from different eras and countries, which are preserved and still operated on a charter basis. These include classic British-made bogie cars and vintage streetcars from Graz, Austria, each adding a distinctive atmosphere.

Fares within the city are flat-rate, and the system supports Kōchi’s local IC card, “DESUCA.” A mobile version of the “Bus & Streetcar One-Day Pass,” which allows unlimited rides on buses and streetcars for 24 hours, is also available, making it especially convenient for sightseeing.
