Last update :

46 restaurants and 7 local product stores are packed on this lively food-stand street.

This street is at the foot of Kochi Castle. It is convenient to stop by before or after touring the area. Hirome Market was named after the Dosa Domain’s chief retainer, Fukao Hirome Shigeaki who was revered by many residents. Even after the Meiji Revolution when his residence was gone, this market neighborhood was lovingly called Hirome Residence.

Here, people like to buy meals at different restaurants and bring them to the common food court. If it is meal time and crowded, secure your seats first. You may be handed your dish at the restaurant or they will bring your order to your seats. It depends on each joint.

It is a plus for travelers that they can have a taste of various restaurants. The well-known Kochi gourmet food, seared bonito, is served at many restaurants. You may see bonito roasted wildly over fire on straws.

There are a number of Kochi’s local specialties here such as Tosa Red Beef, whale dish, and shamo chicken cuisine. Souvenir shops and liquor shops are available. Stop by to pick your souvenirs.
