Compared to other Japanese castles, getting to Shiga isn't that convenient, so there aren't as many tourists here.

You can actually go inside the main keep and see the original architecture. It's really well preserved for a castle of its age.

The stairs inside the castle tower are really steep and not that easy to climb.

You have to climb a pretty rough stone staircase to get to the entrance, but the main keep inside is really well-preserved and has a lot of cultural value. There's also a special mascot show for Hikone Castle.

This is one of only four remaining wooden castles in Japan, and it's also one of the five designated National Treasure castles. It holds incredible historical and cultural value.
