Koikeya Potato Chips Potato and Salt
A simple snack seasoned with a salt-based seasoning on thinly sliced and fried Japanese potatoes. It can be purchased at supermarkets and drug stores across Japan.
Compared to the other flavors, the sea salt one is such a classic. It's super easy to eat—once you start, you just can't stop!
Otaru Canal
Otaru Port, which developed as a gateway for Hokkaido's settlement, saw an increasing volume of cargo over the years. To streamline its transportation, the "Otaru Canal" was completed in 1923 (Taisho 12). The canal, created by reclaiming the offshore coast, is characterized by its gentle curves rather than a straight line.
Walking along the canal feels totally different during the day and at night. Especially in the evening, when the warehouses light up, the whole place turns really romantic!
Pabron
The “Pabron” brand of medicine, produced by Taisho Pharmaceuticals, is one of Japan’s most common cold medicines.
This is a pretty gentle cold medicine, but if you already have a cold, it doesn't work that well.
Sagano Bamboo Grove Trail
The delightful scenery attracted noble families and poets who built their homes in Sagano. Sagano bamboo trail spans about 400m (437 yards) from Nonomiya Shrine, via Tenryuji Temple’s north gate to Okochi Sanso cottage.
The bamboo on both sides is so dense that only a narrow strip of sky is visible. You can spot rickshaws here, and some people even arrive by taxi.
Kenninji Temple
The oldest Zen temple in Kyoto and the head temple of the Kenninji sect of the Rinzai school. In 1202, Minamoto no Yorie, the second shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate, donated the temple area to the temple and founded it with Yousai Zenji as the founder.
You have to take off your shoes when entering the temple. The scenery inside is beautiful—it's a peaceful Zen garden.
Sagano Romantic train
The Sagano Kanko Railway's trolley trains operate on a revived part of the former San'in Main Line, which was closed down. Classical Art Deco style coaches coupled to a diesel locomotive travel 7.3 km one way from Torokko Saga Station, adjacent to JR Saga-Arashiyama Station, to Torokko Kameoka Station, taking about 25 minutes.
The sightseeing train has a simple design, nothing too fancy. It's really all about enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way.
Ginkaku-ji
This temple was built by Ashikaga Yoshimasa, the eighth shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate, as a villa called "Higashiyama-den". Along with Kinkakuji Temple, this temple is a pagoda temple outside of Shokokuji Temple (i.e., a hermitage built in a different location from the main temple after his retirement). After Yoshimasa's death, the temple was named Jishoji after his Buddhist name.
This is one of the most beautiful temples in Kyoto. The nearby Philosopher's Path is also a super popular spot for cherry blossom viewing.
Nanzenji Temple
In the latter half of the 13th century, Emperor Kameyama, who had defeated the Mongols (Yuan) twice, became the Pope and made the temple the first imperial temple in Japan as a Zen temple. After the main temple complex was built by Norian Soen, it was succeeded by Issan Ichinei, a high priest who was dispatched to Japan as an envoy of the Gen.
The garden is absolutely beautiful, and the Suirokaku aqueduct inside, built during the Meiji era, is a pretty impressive Western-style structure.
