Mojiko Retro Observation Room

One of Mojiko's premier viewpoints, the Mojiko Retro Observation Room is located atop an eye-catching high-rise condominium designed by renowned Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa. The glass-enclosed observatory sits on the building's highest floor, complete with panoramic vistas of Mojiko and its surroundings from a height of 103 meters.

The Mojiko Retro Observation Room is totally worth a visit! Take the elevator up and the view just opens up—harbor, ocean, you can even see the city across the way. It has this cool retro-meets-modern vibe, and every photo turns out great! I recommend coming at sunset—the sun and ocean together are super romantic. Afterward, you can check out the retro street area nearby and grab some baked curry. Such a satisfying sightseeing trip!

The Saga Prefectural Space and Science Museum is super fun! There are tons of interactive exhibits, and you can even experience what space feels like. Both adults and kids had a blast—definitely worth a visit!

Fudoin (Koyasan)

Fudoin is a temple whose principal object of worship is a hidden statue of Fudo Myoo, carved by Kobo Daishi (Kukai). The temple was founded in 907 by the high priest Jiko. In the main hall, along with Fudo Myoo, memorial tablets such as the image of Nichirin Daishi and the Hachiman Bodhisattva inscribed on a boat plank are enshrined and honored through daily rituals.

Fudoin has such a peaceful vibe. It’s not very big, but the atmosphere is both solemn and relaxing. Just stepping inside makes you feel calm. The architecture is charmingly old-fashioned—perfect for a slow stroll and quietly soaking in the tranquility.

Oyunuma Pond (Niseko Yumoto Onsen)

Oyunuma is a dramatic hot spring pond located along the scenic Panorama Line that runs between Iwanai and Niseko towns. This geothermal feature was formed by a combination of rainfall, inflow from the Yunokawa (Yusanbetsu River), and the continuous release of high-temperature sulfur gases and thermal steam from beneath the pond.

Oyunuma Pond is in the Niseko Yumoto Onsen area. The sulfur smell is strong and there's steam everywhere, really showing off the power of geothermal nature. It's an awesome place to see unique landscapes and experience hot spring culture.

Takeda Shingen Statue

Takeda Shingen was one of the most prominent warlords of the Sengoku period and an essential figure in Japanese history. As the ruler of Kai Province (modern-day Yamanashi Prefecture), he left behind numerous legends and anecdotes still beloved this day. The statue was erected in 1969, reflecting the deep admiration of the local citizens for Shingen's achievements. Since then, it has long remained a cherished as a city landmark, with an annual cleaning taking place every December.

Tucked between Kenban Yokocho and Oguri Street on the west side of Kagurazaka-dori lies Geisha Komichi - a narrow, winding alley once walked by geisha heading from their office, known as the kenban, to their evening engagements. This historic passage is also known as the Atami-yu Stairs, named after the nearby public bathhouse Atami-yu.
