A friend gave me chocolates from this brand before, and they made a strong impression from the first bite. On this trip to the Kansai region, I unexpectedly found a special matcha version at the airport duty-free shop and happily bought it right away. What I like most is that the sweetness is just right and not cloying at all. The outside is coated with rich, slightly bitter matcha powder, and when you bite into it, the aroma of the crunchy nuts spreads through your mouth. The layers of flavor make it hard to stop eating one after another. I was very lucky to find these at Kansai Airport this time. They’re definitely a souvenir I’d want to buy again.

Miya Kishimen Jingu Store
Located near the Second Torii Gate in the central area of Atsuta Shrine-one of Japan’s three great shrines-the Kusanagi Plaza opened in 2021. Featuring a pond and walking paths, this tranquil space has become a popular spot for visitors to relax. As part of the plaza’s completion, the historic Miya Kishimen Jingu Store, originally founded at Atsuta Shrine, underwent a renewal. Surrounded by lush greenery, it offers a refreshing atmosphere to enjoy the traditional flavors of this renowned eatery.
Before visiting Atsuta Shrine, I had seen this place recommended in quite a few travel posts, saying that Nagoya’s kishimen was a must-try. That day happened to be cold and rainy. After visiting the shrine, with my body and shoes somewhat cold and wet, I was desperately craving a steaming bowl of noodle soup. Maybe that’s just a typical Taiwanese stomach.
The shop is next to Kusanagi Plaza near the Second Torii Gate, so it’s very visible and easy to find. I ordered their signature kishimen in hot broth, with the option of adding fried shrimp. The wide, flat, smooth noodles soaked up the light, slightly sweet broth. It was simple and unpretentious, yet incredibly delicious. The moment I drank the hot broth, my whole body warmed up. Even better, I could buy a shrine-exclusive soft-serve dessert right next door. On a cold, rainy day, finishing a steaming bowl of noodle soup and then having a cold, rich soft-serve cone afterward brought such a wonderful sense of happiness. I highly recommend that travelers planning to visit Atsuta Shrine stop by and try this classic Nagoya flavor.

JR Central Towers
A building directly connected to the terminal station, consisting of two towers with a height of over 200m. Department stores JR Nagoya Takashimaya, Nagoya Marriott Associa Hotel, restaurants, offices, etc. are combined.
After returning to Nagoya from Tajimi City this time, I headed straight to JR Central Towers, which is connected to the station. This landmark, made up of two huge towers, is really great for shopping. It has everything from trendy clothing and household goods to restaurants, so you could easily spend an entire day here.
Since I had already decided to have Sushi no Midori for dinner that day, I got a number as soon as I arrived. While waiting, I leisurely browsed Donguri Republic and checked out some streetwear brands I like. Finally, I went down to B1 to buy some helpful Kayanoya dashi packets for cooking and various souvenirs. Not only does this place have a complete selection, but it also offers tax-free shopping, making it super convenient to buy everything in one place.
By the time my legs were getting a little sore from walking around, my number was called. The waiting system is very convenient now, since you can check the queue status anytime on your phone. Once seated, I ordered my favorite hand rolls and nigiri without hesitation. The whole table was filled with fresh, delicious food, yet the prices were much more affordable than in Taiwan, making it an excellent value. Although Sushi no Midori is now available in Taiwan too, when it comes to both the selection and prices, it’s still more satisfying to enjoy it in Japan. This is a highly recommended place for shopping and picking up souvenirs.

PLUSTA Nagoya Chuo
PLUSTA Nagoya Chuo is located in front of the Central Gate for conventional lines at JR Nagoya Station. It is a highly convenient shop that can be used from outside the ticket gates. The layout is easy to navigate, allowing travelers to shop smoothly before or after boarding the Shinkansen. Although it is located in an area with heavy foot traffic, it is easy to stop by, making it a convenient place to visit before heading out.
When I arrived at JR Nagoya Station this time, I noticed PLUSTA Nagoya Chuo in front of the Central Gate. It mainly sells a variety of bento boxes and souvenirs, which is convenient for travelers in a hurry. One thing that stands out is that you can buy the famous original shrimp crackers from Bankaku Sohonpo here, without having to go to a dedicated store. However, keep in mind that since this is a station shop geared toward quick purchases, it does not offer tax-free shopping.
If you're transferring at the station and want to grab a bento because you're hungry, or pick up a few boxes of local souvenirs to enjoy on the train, this is definitely a convenient, time-saving option.
