Boasting a height of 186 meters, the Kurobe Dam is one of the top-class dams worldwide!
A popular tourist spot, the Kurobe Dam is visited by over 1 million tourists each year!
From the dam’s new viewing platform, you can watch the powerful sight of over 10 tons of water draining out per second.
(Please be aware that water drainage only occurs from late June through mid-October.)

In addition, from the viewing platform’s altitude of 1508 meters, visitors can see parts of the northern Japanese Alps, including the Tateyama mountain range. Visitors can also visit nearby shops and even taste fresh spring water, making the Kurobe Dam an excellent place to take a break and take photographs.
We recommend wearing clothes and shoes that are comfortable for walking and easy to move in when visiting the Kurobe Dam. As mountain weather can change quickly, be sure to bring a raincoat in case of sudden shifts in weather.
Also, if you visit the Kurobe Dam, be sure to try the growing-in-popularity local “Kurobe Dam Curry.” Many local restaurants serve this specialty dish.
