MyCUBE by MYSTAYS Asakusa Kuramae is a great capsule hotel in Asakusa, Tokyo!
For those who plan to check out Asakusa and Tokyo Skytree, I have some information for you on a revolutionary new capsule hotel located in the area. MyCUBE by MYSTAYS Asakusa Kuramae is a new lodging facility created by the MYSTAYS hotel chain that opened in June 2016. As its name suggests, the rooms were inspired by cubes, and even though the rooms are only separated by a rolling screen, their high ceilings give you the sense of staying in a private room.

1. Attractive Rates
Room Only Plan from 2,963 yen (Tax excl.)
Breakfast Plan from 3,612 yen (Tax excl.)
Saturday: Room Only Plan from 5,926 yen (Tax excl.)
Saturday: Breakfast Plan from 6,575 yen (Tax excl.)
※1 Breakfast is an all-you-can-eat buffet consisting of bread, cereal, salad, fruit, etc.
※2 Convenience stores and various fast food joints are located nearby.
2. Convenient Access
MyCUBE is only a 1-min walk to/from the Toei Subway’s Kuramae Station, which is one stop away from Asakusa and three stops from Tokyo Skytree’s nearby Oshiage Station.
What stylish interior!
3. Security and Safety
You can only access your room’s floor with the floor card you received from the front desk; the elevator won’t stop there without it. Lodgings for men and women are located on separate floors so there’s no worry of the opposite sex invading your privacy.
4. CUBE Spaciousness and Cleanliness
4.1 Relaxing Lounge Area
Feel free to chill out in the communal rest area. You can even enjoy a nice cup of coffee for one coin!
Coffee 100 yen per cup
The counter tables have outlets for you to plug in your laptop or phone charger.
4.2 CUBE Spaciousness
This is the CUBE. Measuring 1.6 m in height, and 2 m in length, the fact that there’s no bunk above you gives a feeling of spaciousness not usually associated with capsule hotels.
Under the bed there is enough space to store a large suitcase. A locking shutter is employed to keep your personal belongings safe at all times. The key comes with your floor card.
Inside the shutter, you’ll find disposable slippers for you to use as well.
It’s always great to have a big screen TV all to yourself!
It’s important to note that rooms are separated by rolling screens because industry laws prohibit the use of locks.
Even though the rooms are only separated by a rolling screen, their high ceilings give you the sense of staying in a private room. I highly recommend this hotel to those who don’t do well in confined spaces; this isn’t your average capsule hotel. Be aware that if you happen to be next door to a snorer there isn’t much you can do—aside from bringing a pair of earplugs just in case!
You can use the small table for your laptop, etc. Rooms are fully equipped with Wi-Fi of course!
You’ll notice there’s a USB port for your charger, too.
I was happy to find that there’s also a small safe available for your valuables; it can be opened and closed with the key on your floor card.
You’re asked to use headphones when watching TV for obvious reasons.
4.3 CUBE Cleanliness
There are pants presses available so you can look as sharp leaving as you did coming in.
Bathroom sinks
Showers are located on each floor and can be used at any time of day.
There’s even a bathtub if you prefer baths to showers. How accommodating!
More amenities than you could ask for!
The washrooms were impeccably clean!
Coin laundry can be a life saver!
5. Conclusion
MyCUBE is a revolutionary facility that changed my image of capsule hotels.
The lounge, the level of cleanliness, the stylish design, the abundant amenities, and the sense of security were the aspects that would make me want to return.
Keep in mind that since the prices get pretty steep come Saturday, it’s a better deal to stay during the week if possible. On weekdays, MyCUBE easy beats other capsule hotels in the same price range—in my book anyways. It’s easy to get to, clean, and comfortable.
Breakfast comes out to be about 700 yen. While there wasn’t much variety, the bread was tasty. And there was fruit and salad too, which was nice. The atmosphere was pleasant and that made the meal all the more enjoyable.
