In Kure, a city known for its many yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) spots, you’ll find a number of places that also have fish tanks to boast their delicious seafood.

Along Kuramoto Street, food stalls start opening one after another from around 5 p.m.

Dinner on this trip is a local delight set at Okonomiyaki Teppanyaki Taichan III, a buzz-worthy okonomiyaki joint set just off of Rengadori that’s all the rage among the locals.

As mealtime approaches, the place buzzes with both tourists and locals.

Dig into the chef's recommended classic Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, “Niku-tama Soba”! Nothing but skill before your eyes as the chef unfurls all the fun on the hot griddle. The dish is made with soba noodles for hearty volume and heaps of cabbage for a tasty, heathy bite.

Watching the sheer skill as your okonomiyaki is made is half the fun.

Get ready to savor this steaming hot dish while serenaded by the sizzling sound of sauce as it hits the griddle. Another must-try you won’t want to miss other than okonomiyaki is 'Teppan Tako Tempura'. It's a unique local specialty where tempura is fried on a teppan (iron griddle). The octopus used is fresh, caught the same day at Shimokamagari Island, where the original 'Taichan' restaurant is located. The tempura, fried on one side of the griddle, offers a crispy and fragrant texture that's different from regular tempura! It also makes the perfect companion for a hard drink.

Kuramoto Street, lined with food stalls, features a well-maintained brick sidewalk and scattered benches, making it ideal for a relaxed walk in the evening breeze.

As you walk towards the harbor, you'll come across popular tourist spots like the Yamato Museum and the Iron Whale Museum. While you can't enter them at night, the light-up view is breathtaking!
