Experience offered by Japanese traditional Inn

Asahikan was founded around 140 years ago. It is located in front of the trail entrance to the World Heritage site, Mt. Omine, and has long been popular as a restful Inn for mountain climbers. Cuisine served at the inn features a variety of local seasonal produce, with a wonderful array of dishes from sweetfish grilled with salt and fresh deer sashimi to wild mountain vegetable dishes.

Asahikan, a long-established Japanese Inn, still retains good old-fashioned Japanese traditions. With relaxing guest rooms, dishes incorporating in-season produce, and homely hospitality, Asahikan is full of charm! While staying at the inn, guests can enjoy experiencing the nature characteristic of Kawakami village in Nara Prefecture through activities such as lake kayaking and icefall trekking.

Asahikan is rustic mountain lodge which introduces regional cuisine like raw deer sashimi, wild boar hotpot, and barley rice porridge. The friendly owner makes rice using a wood burning stove called a “kamado” and showed us her kitchen.
The Taisho era glass windows were hand crafted and the building is a traditional inn with paper partitions between rooms, futons, karosene space heaters, and communal bathrooms, and sinks. It’s an authentic experience if you’d like to enjoy a stay in the Nara countryside.

Asahikan is a traditional Japanese hotel on a very rural mountainside. The staff are warm and welcoming and do their best to ensure the comfort of their guests. It has a beautiful garden which can be seen while walking to and from the shared washroom on the second floor. The food is prepared with love and are sure to make Japanese foodies very happy.

Felt really nice to be surrounded by nature and the home made dessert was really delicious. It was great to wear the traditional clothes and the hospitality was brilliant.

Traditional Ryokan, super super super delicious food, super super super kind staff! In the middle of the mountains, to spend time close to the nature, with the possibility to join many outdoors activities with the local tours staff :D

The food was very good, but the rooms weren't very well catered too (blankets, heaters, etc.)
