Tucked away in the mountains of Yoshinoyama, Yoshino Onsen Motoyu offers sweeping views of the area from its interior, built in the distinctive local architectural style known as Yoshino-zukuri. Its hot spring water comes 100% from the source. This ryokan is a great place to enjoy both the nature of Yoshinoyama and its hot springs.

The inn's signature feature is its hot spring, which first opened Approx. 300 years ago. Known as “Yoshino’s hidden hot spring,” it became a famous bath so beloved that visitors never stopped coming. The reddish, iron-rich carbonated spring water warms you to the core. Another highlight is the spacious public bath, where you can relax while looking out over the garden. There are just six Japanese-style rooms, each offering views of the garden as it changes with the seasons. The room where novelist Toson Shimazaki stayed in the spring of 1893 has also been preserved just as it was at the time.

Dinner, made with local ingredients, lets you choose from seasonal hot pot or kaiseki course meals. You can also enjoy a gently seasoned Japanese breakfast. About a 20-minute walk from the ryokan are the World Heritage sites Yoshimizu Shrine and Kinpusenji Temple’s Zao-do Hall. It’s a great place to experience the history of Yoshinoyama’s shrines and temples while enjoying a walk through the area.
