Composed of "Noh" and "Kyōgen", "Nōgaku" is one of Japan's representative traditional performing arts. Passed down from generation to generation for over 700 years, starting from the samurai society of the Muromachi period, it is said to be the oldest existing theatrical performance in the world. It has greatly influenced other theatrical performances such as Bunraku, Kabuki, Opera, and even modern theatre plays. In 2008, it was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

I really enjoyed the hands-on experience with the masks and drums, being told to go slowly, and being told not to touch the face of the masks; in order to preserve them.

It was great to experience every part of Noh before seeing it on the stage. It made it easier to appreciate it.

A strange yet entertaining show, really need to use your imagination. Delight for the senses, the music, sights and smell. It was nice to be invited into the sacred stage space to learn how to wear and walk with the masks. The Sake at the break was also beautifully presented.
