With 2 Ponds Located Among Bountiful Nature, it’s an Oasis in the Metropolis
Two ponds, Sanpoji-ike and Shakujii-ike, are situated in the middle of this park. Within its undulating grounds, the natural environment of Musashino remains here.
Surrounded by trees, the still waters of Sanpoji-ike Pond contrast with lively boaters on Shakujii-ike Pond. Besides these ponds, there are several ruins connected to Shakujii Castle. Sanpoji-ike Waterside Botanical Complex is recognized as a Natural Monument by the Japanese government.
In spring, when about 300 Somei-Yoshino and Yamazakura cherry trees are in full bloom, many people come to visit this park.
With 2 ponds in the center, it’s a sprawling park full of nature’s bounty. .
Come and see wild birds and waterfowl, as well as flowers in season.
You can also ride a boat on Shakujii Pond. .
Shakujii Information Center is right at the central exit of Shakujii-Koen Station.
In the surrounding are more places to visit, such as a museum showing exhibits of local history and culture as well as a Buddhist temple.
