Tokyo Metropolitan Shakujii Park

With 2 Ponds Located Among Bountiful Nature, it’s an Oasis in the Metropolis.

Last update :

Shakujii Park is a metropolitan park centered around two ponds, Sanpoji-ike Pond and Shakujii Pond. The park is rich in nature and retains the natural scenery of Musashino.

Surrounded by trees, the still waters of Sanpoji-ike Pond contrast with lively boaters on Shakujii-ike Pond. Besides these ponds, there are several ruins connected to Shakujii Castle. Sanpoji-ike Waterside Botanical Complex is recognized as a Natural Monument by the Japanese government.

In spring, about 240 cherry trees, including Somei Yoshino and Yamazakura, are in full bloom, attracting many cherry blossom viewers. Autumn is also beautiful with the foliage turning red, and the area around Sanpoji-ike Pond is popular as a spot for autumn leaves. Nearby facilities include the "Nerima Shakujiikoen Furusato Museum," which exhibits the history and culture of the region, and the "Nerima Makino Memorial Garden," as well as other temples, which are worth visiting in combination.
