This shrine is located right next to Asagaya Station and is famous for its "Hachinan-yoke" (avoiding the eight disasters).

Last update :

The shrine is located in Asagaya, Suginami Ward, Tokyo, and is dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami. It is said that the origin of "Asagaya Shinmeigū Shrine" dates back to the time when Yamato Takeru no Mikoto rested in Asagaya on his way back from an expedition to the east, and then later the villagers, who admired Yamato Takeru no Mikoto's military exploits, established the shrine.

It is known for its "Hachinan-yoke" prayer, which is said to remove all kinds of misfortunes and troubles in this life, and is the only place in the country that offers this prayer. The shrine is also popular for its unique gifts, such as a lace bracelet-shaped amulet called "Kanmusubi" and an "apple leather amulet" made from recycled apples.

The grounds of the shrine, which cover an area of approximately 3,000 tsubo (approximately 1,000 square meters), are lush with greenery, and a leisurely stroll is highly recommended. There is a Noh theater on the grounds, where the "Asagaya-bayashi" music, designated as an intangible cultural asset by the ward, and various other traditional performing arts are dedicated to the god. It is also the site of an antique market, a plant market, and a jazz street sponsored by Suginami Ward, making it a place for communication in the community.
