Suwakyo (Suwa Gorge)

Suwakyo is a gorge created by the limpid flow of the Tone River. It is a great place to hike along the trail by the river while enjoying nature. The gorgeous scenery of colorful leaves appearing on both banks of the river in the autumn season is exceptionally breathtaking. Railroad tracks run right above the boardwalk, and you might be able to see a steam locomotive if you are lucky.

Suwakyo is famous for its scenery and as an outdoor leisure spot where you can enjoy various outdoor activities. At the "Suwakyo-ohashi" bridge, the symbol of the area, you can experience bridge bungee (diving from the bridge), a rare type of bungee jumping in Japan. You will jump from a height of 42 meters. You can either try yourself or cheer for someone else. With the magnificent Tanigawa-dake in the background, you can take amazing photos or videos of the person who is bungee jumping.
Ryugase, with its 200-meter rapids, is also a popular rafting spot. The thrilling river ride through the ever-changing beauty of the canyon is worth experiencing.
