This shrine is the crown jewel of Miyazaki, and it worships the first Emperor Jimmu. Alongside the emperor, his parents, the god Ugayafuki-Aezu-no-Mikoto, and goddess Tamayorimi-Himenokoto is worshiped. Visitors pray to the altars in hope for being successful in education, business, and maternity. The festivals in October is dubbed “Jimmu-sama”, and is attended by many.

The grandson of Emperor Jimmu, Takeiwatatsu-nomikoto became the minister of Kyushu, and as he became religion-savvy, he ordered the creation of this shrine in the times of the 10th Sujin Emperor, and 12th Keikou Emperor, according to old text.

This sacred ground is covered in forests. It is also a bird's paradise with plenty of trees. Surrounding the shrine are libraries, museums, and art galleries. It is loved by the locals, and busy during holidays.

Miyazaki Shrine was located in the center of a district named Miyazaki, during the Nara period. Since the Jimmu emperor lived here prior to being appointed Emperor, the name Miyazaki, meaning “Front of Palace” was chosen.
