It's a town with beautiful natural scenery, and good views are famous as a villa area with an imperial villa.

Last update :

A hilly town faces Sagami Bay in the western part of the Miura Peninsula. On a clear day, one can see as far as the Izu Peninsula and Mt. Fuji. "Hayama Coast" is a 4-km-long coastline that alternates between beautiful beaches and reefs and is a popular beach in the summer. In addition, as the "Birthplace of Yachting in Japan," many competitions are held here.

On the other hand, there are terraced rice paddies in the inland area of Hayama, where rice cultivation, the production of specialty Hayama vegetables, and the raising of a rare brand of cattle, Hayama Beef, are conducted in the good old Satoyama* landscape.
*”Satoyama” is a mountain or forest near a human village that is connected to people's daily lives.

Hayama has long been known as a vacation home, and on the coast is the Hayama Imperial Villa, where the royal family has been staying since 1894, as well as the homes and villas of many famous people from all walks of life. The area is also rich in historical heritage from ancient to modern times, including Morito Shrine, a shrine founded by Minamoto no Yoritomo, and the former Jesus Kojokai Convent, a Western-style building built in 1914 as the Hayama villa of the former Higashifushimi no Miya.
It is also home to the Hayama Pavilion of the Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura & Hayama, a center for the arts. In recent years, the town has become popular as a gourmet town. It has attracted attention for its high quality restaurants, sweets stores, and bakeries.
