Although an observatory, weather is not measured here. This is a place where art and culture is spread through celebrating scape unifying the ocean, the mountains, the skies and nature. The name observatory comes from the idea that by going back to the beginning of humankind and art, “when our ancestors grew conscious and found their existence by measuring their relationship with the skies”.

The museum was designed by modern artist Hiroshi Sugimoto. The summer solstice light workshop 100m gallery, the stone stage, the optical glass stage, the tearoom “Uchoten”, the “Meigetsu Gate” (full-moon gate), and the waiting room is just one of the 54 buildings and artworks in this museum. They are placed according to the movement of the sun and the ground. It took 10 years to design, 10 years in the building of this museum. Although artificial, it works well with the surrounding nature, everywhere you go gives a great view.

The area is surrounded by citrus groves, and tours are by advance reservation and changeover, so there are no crowds to come and go or to enter.
This museum is perfect to take exclusive art photos without worrying about others.
