Yokohama Municipal Tramway Museum

Meet nostalgic streetcars. A time-travel experience unique to Yokohama.

Last update :

This museum preserves materials related to the Yokohama Municipal Tramway, a streetcar system that once served as a major means of transportation for Kanagawa residents. Since opening in 1973, it has remained a favorite among railway fans for more than half a century.

The main “Vehicle Exhibition Corner” displays several tram cars with different car numbers in their original state. Step inside the retro cars with their abundant use of wood for a feeling of traveling back in time, or sit in the driver's seat for a commemorative photo.

Also not to be missed are the “History Exhibition Corner,” which clearly explains the history of Yokohama’s urban transportation, and the “Yoshimura Collection,” which displays valuable O gauge model trains collected by the late railway model enthusiast Sakae Yoshimura.

At the “Hama Diorama,” centered on a model diorama with trains and buses in motion, a remarkably realistic miniature world awaits down to the finest details. It visually expresses the role of subways and buses in citizens’ daily lives, making it hard to look away.
