Comprising three zones, the Handcraft Workshop, the Nambu Magariya (L-shaped House), and the Shop (Morioka Local Industry Promotion Center), this complex offers visitors the opportunity to learn about and experience Morioka's craftsmanship.
The "Handmade Workshop" is a collection of 14 workshops of traditional handicrafts and local delicacies representative of the region, such as Nambu ironware, Morioka cold noodles, and Nanbu senbei (rice crackers).
Visitors can observe experienced artisans at work, and each workshop offers hands-on workshops. Various hands-on workshops are popular, including indigo dyeing, pottery, weaving, and more.
The "Nanbu magariya" was originally built in the late Edo period (1603-1868) and has been relocated and restored.
The main house and the stable are connected to each other, and visitors can actually see the distinctive architectural style unique to this area, where horses have thrived since ancient times.
About 4,000 kinds of Morioka and Iwate specialties are sold in the exhibition and sales room at the shop (Morioka Regional Industry Promotion Center).
At the cafe corner, visitors can enjoy original sweets such as "Nanjera?" that gelato sandwiched between Nanbu senbei (rice crackers) and other sweets. There is also an exhibition room that introduces Morioka's tourism, traditional crafts, and local industries with various materials.
