Founded by Toshio Kitazawa, founder of KITZ Corporation—a company known for manufacturing valves and supporting vital infrastructure—this museum displays artworks from his extensive private collection. Since opening in May 1983, the museum has welcomed over 8 million visitors.

On the first floor, the Glass Art Exhibition Room features around 100 pieces by renowned late 19th-century French glass artists, including Emile Gallé’s iconic "Mushroom Lamp" and masterpieces by the Daum brothers. Visitors can deepen their appreciation using an audio guide accessible via smartphone.

The second floor houses the Japanese Painting Exhibition Room, showcasing contemporary Japanese painters such as Kaii Higashiyama and Yasushi Sugiyama. The gallery regularly rotates its exhibitions to reflect the changing seasons, offering something new to discover with each visit.

The museum also includes an on-site café and a museum shop. A highlight at the café is the chance to enjoy not only cakes but also the local specialty oyaki—a traditional Nagano dumpling. Visitors are encouraged to pick up original souvenirs inspired by the collection at the museum shop, then relax at the café afterward.
