Happo-en

Enjoy the "beauty" of Japan through gardens, architecture, and cuisine filled with seasonal charm.

Last update :

Located just a short distance from Shirokanedai Station, "Happo-en" is a Japanese garden that sprawls over a vast area of approximately 10,000 tsubo. The garden, dotted with seasonal flowers and buildings that evoke a sense of history, is a relaxing spot where visitors can enjoy the changing expressions of the seasons, which explains why the garden is named "Beautiful in Every Direction".

It was originally built by Taisho period businessman Fusanosuke Kuhara on the site of the former residence of Tadataka Okubo, a shogunate bannerman in the Edo period, who developed the buildings and garden. The garden is surrounded by a pond where carp swim and waterfowl gather, a relocated teahouse from a Meiji-era building, and a collection of bonsai trees, including one that is more than 500 years old. Visitors can relax and unwind in a tranquil atmosphere that seems to make them forget they are in the heart of the city.

There is a wedding hall and restaurant on the premises, where wedding receptions and meals can be enjoyed under the beautiful scenery. In addition to the "Hakuhokan" villa in the garden, the main building offers a variety of venues on six floors. There are two restaurants: the "Slush Cafe", which boasts a menu using fresh vegetables, and the "Kochuan", a ryotei restaurant that uses seasonal ingredients prepared with reliable techniques and a rich sensibility.
