Ogaki Castle is said to have been built in 1535 by Yasusada Miyagawa, a member of the Toki clan, a Mino governor, and is familiar to citizens as the symbol of the castle town of Ogaki. Ogaki Castle is a historically significant castle where Ishida Mitsunari established his headquarters during the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, a battle that divided Japan under the rule of the Tokugawa shogunate.

In the Edo period (1603-1867), the 11th generation Toda family continued to hold the castle with 100,000 koku. It was designated a National Treasure in 1936. However, in July 1945, it was destroyed by fire in an air raid in Ogaki. The castle was rebuilt in 1959, and the four-story, four-floor, all-nurigome style keep, which is rare in Japan, was restored.

The castle is an exhibition hall, displaying valuable documents and dioramas of the Battle of Sekigahara and armor used since the Edo period. The top floor is an observatory where visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the castle town of Ogaki below.
