The park stretches on a hill overlooking the Okitama Basin. Located behind "Akayu Onsen", one of Yamagata's leading hot springs, which has been in operation for more than 920 years, the park is visited by many people throughout the year.

It is also famous for its cherry blossoms, having been selected as one of the 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan. The park is home to someiyoshino cherry trees that are more than 120 years old, as well as one of the few clusters of edohigan cherry trees in the world. Every spring, approximately 1,000 cherry trees of 25 varieties adorn the entire Karasuoboshiyama Park. The park is also called "Eboshiyama Senbonzakura" (Mt. Eboshiyama Thousand Cherry Blossoms) because of its breathtaking scale, with cherry trees in full bloom all over the park as far as the eye can see. The "Akayu Onsen Cherry Blossom Festival" is held from mid-April to early May, when the cherry blossoms are usually at their best, and the cherry blossoms are lit up at night. Since you can look up at the cherry blossoms from the hot spring resort, it is recommended to stay overnight in Akayu Onsen and enjoy the magnificent cherry blossoms, whose expressions change with the time of day, at a leisurely pace.

Because of the well-balanced arrangement of seasonal plants such as pine trees and maples, not to mention the thousand cherry trees, visitors can enjoy seasonal views and vistas of cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery in summer, and autumnal foliage in fall.
