Founded in 1804, this long-established Japanese confectionery has been in business since the Edo period. The shop is crowded with locals and tourists alike, who come to enjoy the famous Abekawa mochi.

At the eat-in restaurant, enjoy Abekawa Mochi 800 yen, a set of four mochi covered with soybean flour and white sugar and four mochi covered with red bean paste, or Karami Mochi 800 yen, served with wasabi and soy sauce, a specialty of Shizuoka. In both cases, the mochi is warmed in a hot water bath and then torn into bite-size pieces after the order is placed, so you can feel the soft texture and firm texture. The Abekawa Mochi covered with soybean flour or red bean paste and the Karami Mochi, which is a boiled rice cake dipped in wasabi and soy sauce, have different textures, and both should be savored.

Abekawa-mochi has been sold as a specialty at teahouses along the banks of the Abekawa since the early Edo period, and is mentioned in "Tokaidochu Hizakurige" (The Tales of the Highway of the Tokaido). It was loved by many travelers because of its longevity, and even the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu enjoyed it.
