Lake Gando
Japan's most beautiful artificial lake where you can enjoy smelt fishing on ice.
Lake Gando, created in 1961 with the construction of the Gando Dam, is surrounded by forests of white birch and red pine, creating a mystical atmosphere. It's acclaimed as the most beautiful man-made lake in Japan.
The broadleaf trees around the lake change with the seasons, offering vibrant greenery in spring and spectacular autumn colors. With camping sites, plazas, and walking trails developed around it, the lake serves as a delightful natural park. At an elevation of 700 meters, it offers a cool climate, perfect for strolling and admiring seasonal flowers like skunk cabbages, lilies of the valley, and azaleas from spring to early summer.
The highlight is winter smelt fishing – a unique and seasonal activity. Anglers and families drill holes in the frozen lake surface to catch smelt. Every season, the lake attracts numerous fishing enthusiasts and families for this unique winter activity.
On the east shore of the lake, there's "Lake Gando Rest House," offering meals and selling Lake Gando fishing permits. The restaurant serves dishes like garlic miso ramen and handmade buckwheat soba. They also offer a service to cook the caught smelt for free when you rent fishing equipment or dine there.

沒有風的日子,像鏡子一般的寧靜,湖水倒映著湖水周囲的小丘和森林,真的非常美麗。
