Last update :

A museum exhibiting numerous valuable artifacts related to ancient Izumo, home to Izumo Taisha and many legends.

In the central lobby, the museum displays the giant pillar "Uzuhashira," which was discovered in 2000 within the precincts of Izumo Taisha. The themed exhibition rooms are divided into three sections. In "Izumo Taisha and the Festival of the Land of the Gods," a 1/10th scale model of the Izumo Taisha, which in the Heian period was a gigantic multi-tiered temple, is showcased. The "Bronze Weapons and Golden Swords" section presents an impressive sight with 358 national treasure bronze swords and 39 bronze bells lined up in a row.

Other highlights include the "Mythical Corridor," which introduces Shimane's mythological stories from texts like the "Kojiki," "Nihon Shoki," and "Izumo no Kuni Fudoki" in an easy-to-understand manner, and the "General Exhibition Room," where you can try your hand at drilling holes in jade.

Don't miss the garden featuring heart-shaped leaves on a Cinnamon tree.
