Jogakura Bridge

Located within Towada-Hachimantai National Park, Jogakura Bridge spans the Jogakura Gorge along the National Route 394 bypass. With a total length of about 360 meters and an arch span of roughly 255 meters, it is one of Japan’s largest deck-arch bridges. Standing approximately 122 meters above the gorge, the view looking down into the valley below is nothing short of breathtaking.

From the bridge, visitors can enjoy sweeping views of the Hakkōda Mountain Range, Mount Iwaki, and even the city of Aomori. The scenery changes dramatically with the seasons-lush greenery in summer, snowy landscapes in winter, and most spectacularly, the vibrant autumn foliage. During fall, the mountains transform into a vast panorama of reds and yellows, creating a stunning sight that leaves a lasting impression.

The gorge’s rock walls consist of columnar joints formed from quartz andesite created by volcanic activity roughly 10 million years ago, and the stream below is highly acidic, making it uninhabitable for fish. This untouched natural environment-beautiful yet harsh-adds to the area’s mystique.

Parking and rest areas are available at both ends of the bridge, making it an ideal stop during a scenic drive.
