First Nagisa Park

A lakeside park on Lake Biwa where Approx. 12,000 rapeseed flowers and sunflowers fill the grounds.

Last update :

Right by the lakeshore, and just a short distance from Biwako Ohashi Bridge connecting Otsu and Moriyama, this park becomes a sea of flowers in season. It’s especially known for rapeseed flowers and sunflowers. At peak bloom, Approx. 12,000 rapeseed flowers and Approx. 12,000 sunflowers spread across the grounds. Many visitors come with cameras in hand to capture the views over an area of Approx. 4,000 square meters.

Rapeseed flower season is best from late January to early February. These early-blooming rapeseed flowers, called Kanzaki Hanana, create a vivid contrast of bright yellow against the sky. Photos with the Hira Mountains—often still capped with snow across Lake Biwa—are especially popular.

From mid-July to late July, a smaller sunflower variety known as Kids Smile comes into bloom. The plants grow to 1.2 to 1.7 meters tall, and the flowers tend to bloom evenly, creating a bright, vibrant look across the park.

Bloom updates during the season are posted on the website, so it’s worth checking before you go.
