Mikawa Craft Glass Museum

An innovative museum featuring an array of photogenic glass art.

Supervised by :  Mikawa Craft Glass Museum

This museum goes beyond simply displaying glass art, offering dynamic exhibits that incorporate light and sound. Its innovative installations are especially noteworthy, including Sphere, a giant kaleidoscope recognized by Guinness World Records in 2000, and Four Seasons, a room lined entirely with sculpted mirrors. Its distinctive approach shifts the focus from viewing art to experiencing it, allowing visitors to feel as though they have become part of the artwork.

The museum quickly gained attention as a photogenic destination after photography was permitted in 2018. However, DSLR cameras, mirrorless cameras, selfie sticks, and tripods are not allowed, so visitors are encouraged to take photos with their smartphones.

The museum's hands-on glassmaking courses are also popular, offering the chance to create a variety of pieces using techniques such as sandblasting and stained glass, or to make a kaleidoscope. Sessions take approximately 2 hours, while a shorter 1-hour course is also available.
