Hachinohe City Gyosai Retail Market

Pick up fresh fish and side dishes to create your own breakfast.

Last update :

A local kitchen where fresh seafood landed at Hachinohe Port, processed seafood products, dried goods, and delicacies are sold. Thanks to its convenient location just a short walk from Mutsu-Minato Station, it’s also popular as a tourist spot and draws many visitors. Opened in 1953, it retains a retro feel, and after a major renovation in December 2022, it was reborn as a clean, highly barrier-free facility.

At this market, where 16 shops line up, the lively local dialect of the fish-selling women known as “Isaba no Katcha” fills the air. Since it’s old-school, face-to-face sales, it’s also a great chance for visitors to interact with locals.

You can also eat the sashimi and side dishes you buy at the market cafeteria, “Asameshi-dokoro Gyosai.” The cafeteria sells rice, soup, grilled fish, and more, so you can top your rice with sashimi and enjoy an original breakfast packed with seafood.
