Oniushi Park is in Mori Town, located Approx. 1 hour by car from Hakodate. Construction began in 1968 (Showa 43) to mark the town’s 110th anniversary, and it was completed in 1983 (Showa 58). “Oniushi,” an Ainu word meaning “a place where trees grow thick,” is also the origin of the name Mori Town.

The park has walking paths and features around 500 cherry trees across 20 varieties, including Somei Yoshino and Chishima cherry blossoms. It also includes local Mori Town varieties such as Horii Hizakura and Komamizakura, and is well known as a cherry-blossom viewing spot along with Aobagaoka Park in Mori Town.

Next to the park is the roadside station “YOU・遊・もり,” with a direct-sales shop selling local specialties such as scallops, squid, and kombu, plus a restaurant. Located along National Route 5 connecting Hakodate and Mori Town, it’s also popular as a rest stop while driving. There’s an observation area on the rooftop of the roadside station, offering sweeping views of Mt. Komagatake and Funka Bay. On clear days, you may even be able to see Mt. Yotei and Mt. Usu beyond Funka Bay.
