A vast highland in the heart of Joshinetsu Kogen National Park, Shiga Kogen is also designated as one of only nine UNESCO Eco Parks in Japan. With an elevation difference of as much as 1,000 meters, it supports rich vegetation and offers diverse natural scenery.
In winter, 18 ski resorts of various sizes open across the area, drawing skiers and snowboarders from all over Japan. With its vast slopes, breathtaking panoramic views, and attractions found only at Shiga Kogen, many visitors return year after year. After a day in the snow, the hot springs and local food are hard to resist.
It’s not just a winter destination, either, as the lush green season offers a wide range of activities. There are also five certified forest therapy courses where you can relax amid rich natural scenery and crisp air.
