Gomi no Ichi
A fish market where you can enjoy fresh oysters and seafood delivered directly from Hinase Port.
Gomi no Ichi is a fish market run by the Hinase Fisheries Cooperative in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture. It sells fresh seafood from the Seto Inland Sea, landed by local fishermen, directly to customers. You'll find a wide selection of fresh seafood, including sea bream, flounder, and shellfish. It's popular not only with locals for everyday shopping, but also with tourists.
The market's star attraction is oysters. From April to July, rock oysters are the main offering, and from November, Pacific oysters take center stage. After purchase, the rock oysters can be shucked on the spot so you can enjoy their fresh flavor right away. Pacific oysters can be brought to the adjacent barbecue facility, Umi no Eki Shioji, and grilled there. Hinase oysters are known for their exceptional quality and were even crowned the first champion of the National Oyster-1 Grand Prix. They are prized for their rich umami and sweetness, and for staying plump even after cooking. The local specialty Kaki Fry Soft, a bold treat featuring fried oysters stuck into soft-serve ice cream, is also popular.
The market is spacious and filled with lively energy. Nearby attractions such as Hinase Natural Hot Spring Hoshinoyu also make it easy to stop by while sightseeing in Okayama.
